How CoilOps earns without page traffic: free skills, metered x402 calls, plan tiers.

The no-traffic model

CoilOps does not need page views to earn. Its customers include agents — Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Grok, Bankr — that discover tools through machine-readable listings, pay per call without accounts, and come back because the outputs are deterministic and receipted. The funnel has three stages:

1 · Skills: free acquisition

Skill packs are documentation-shaped files (SKILL.md) that teach any compatible agent framework the CoilOps workflow — the schema, the safety rails, and where the paid endpoints live. Four packs ship this pass: hiss-coilops, hiss-robinhood-mcp, hiss-risk-fuses, and hiss-receipts, plus the public site-level SKILL.md. Skills are distributed free — the norm across skill registries (there is no monetization or rev-share in skills repos). They are the acquisition channel, not the product.

2 · x402: metered per-call revenue

Five paid services, settled in USDC on Base via Bankr x402 Cloud (scaffolded this pass, not yet deployed). No accounts, no API keys — an agent pays per call and only for successful responses (settle-after-response). Headline tools sit in the $0.25–$1 band per call (capsule compiles at $0.25; multi-model critique from $0.50), with cheap high-frequency calls below it and the full table in API pricing. Platform fee: 0% to 1,000 settled requests/month, then 5% — margin-positive from the first call.

3 · Plans: subscriptions for regulars

  • Pro — more saved Coils and advanced receipts for people who ship playbooks weekly.
  • Agent — the API tier: volume tools access, skill packs, and the MCP server workflow.
  • Studio — multi-agent strategy audits and multi-model critique for teams.
  • Enterprise — custom controls; talk to us.

Why this shape

  • Discovery is the bottleneck, so listings live where agents already search: skill registries, bankr x402 search, and (later) Coinbase’s Bazaar index.
  • Per-call prices are set for reflexive use — cheap enough that an agent validates every Coil it touches, not just the important ones.
  • Free read tools build trust: the MCP server’s read-only tools and coil browsing cost nothing; payment starts where real compute starts (compile, critique, verify).
